Join us at Prudential Center as we continue to collaborate with Artists For Humanity to provide a platform for budding artists to showcase their talents.
Through this relationship with AFH, Prudential Center not only provides a physical space for these artists to exhibit their work, but also fosters an environment that encourages artistic expression, creativity, and personal growth.
This October and November, enjoy paintings from local artists Ananda Toulon and Keyonna Popplewell during a day of shopping, before a dining reservation, or just to celebrate the next generation of talent!
We are featuring two of Ananda’s paintings around Prudential Center through the end of October.
I’ve always wanted my work to be visually and emotionally moving. I like to have my art come from a place of emotional vulnerability – often inspired from my dreams and whatever lays dormant in my subconscious inspired heavily by vibrant colors and a sense of whimsy to express an often difficult mood. I separate myself from my work once finished for others to feel their own narratives – the act of painting for me is most rewarding when shared.
Born in Dominica, Ananda and her family often moved around, before settling in Massachusetts with her mom and four older siblings. She has always been attracted to art – most likely inspired by watching her artistically inclined siblings and inherit abilities from her father. Between moving and periods of separation, she started to use painting as a way to cope, and pass the time. Not one for many words, Ananda uses her work as her voice.
Q: What is your favorite spot to eat in the city?
Wagamama, the closest location for me is Faneuil Hall!
Q: What is your favorite retail store to shop in?
Trident Bookstore on Newbury Street!
We are featuring two of Keyonna’s paintings around Prudential Center through the end of November.
Keyonna portrays “creative happiness” and the vibrancy of reality. She loves expressing her work through various different mediums such as acrylic, oil and watercolor. She gains inspiration by thinking about how she can make a piece of art that will influence a viewers’ emotions. Art has always been a part of her world, it’s a place where she builds her identity and passion – art is her persona. Keyonna uses her brushstrokes to uplift the imagination of the viewer and allow them to be fully immersed in the aesthetic of the painting.
Q: What is your favorite spot in Boston to relax/have fun/explore?
My favorite spot in Boston to relax, have fun, and explore is Newbury Street.
Q: What does your perfect day in Boston look like?
My perfect day in Boston would look like going out on a warm Saturday afternoon, dressing nicely, picking flowers, and eating at new restaurants. Also walking into galleries and feeling inspired by professional artists. Then going downtown to eat more good food. Also taking a walk around Faneuil Hall to shop and take cute pictures. Lastly, ending the night with a movie at AMC.
Artists For Humanity (AFH) provides under-resourced teens the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in art and design. AFH is built on the philosophy that engagement in the creative process is a powerful force for social change, and that creative entrepreneurship is a productive and life-changing opportunity for young people. Bridging economic, racial and social divisions, AFH enriches urban communities by introducing young people’s creativity to the business community.
